Helena Bosch Vidal won the Bourses déliées du Fonds cantonal d'art contemporain, Genève for her work The very thing for Ladies (WIP) a music performance about the emancipation of female pleasure. This process of liberation is going to be portrayed by the history of the vibrator.
The Bourses déliées du Fonds cantonal d'art contemporain (FCAC) (Cantonal Fund for Contemporary Art Grants) are intended exclusively for young creators from HEAD – Genève. Worth some CHF 60,000, they are awarded by two distinct juries, one for Fine Arts and the other for Design.
In 2016, HEAD – Genève’s management and the FCAC mutually agreed to change the mechanism for these grants. Participants can now only apply in the year following their graduation. Furthermore, exhibitions of the works of the young prize-winning artists and designers are now set apart according to their domain: fine arts’ projects will still be showcased at Halle Nord, while design works will be exhibited at Flux Laboratory, a place open to exchanges between different forms of creation.
These prizes provide material support for up-and-coming creators during the crucial time of transition between studying and entering the professional world, while also providing them with some added significant professional experience through the design and realisation of an exhibition and a catalogue. Indeed, since 2009, the grants have been followed by an exhibition of the prize-winning works in a renowned contemporary art venue as well as the publication of a catalogue, in which prize-winners are invited to actively participate.
